Corporations Must Combine Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility, and Community to Ensure Sustainable Profitability
At Fashion and Earth we believe in sustainable profitability which is founded on three key principles: environmental stewardship, social responsibility and community. We believe that any responsible corporation must operate itself in a sustainable fashion which is integral to protecting our planet’s health and ultimately our own. We believe that any responsible corporation must consider the human impact of its business operations. Developing nations rely heavily on the garment industry as a means of developing prosperity. It is our responsibility to ensure the workers in these developing nations are paid a fair wage for their labour and are treated fairly – by doing this, we provide the foundation for people in developing nations to bring themselves out of poverty and into prosperity. You can review our environmental and social policies in more detail here.
At Fashion and Earth we also believe that any responsible corporation must do even more and that is why we are committed to donating 5% of our profits to good causes that we feel help to protect the planet and humanity. There are so many good causes out there (over 800,000 registered charities) and we wish we could support them all but unfortunately we must make a choice. Currently, we have chosen to support two great charities which are well established, have a great level of credibility and are highly efficient ensuring that a significant (80% or more) of every dollar gets used directly in support programs versus administration. The two charities that we proudly support are shown below.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world and, serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.
In fiscal year 2007, 86 percent of their total revenue went to programs that benefit children, families, and communities in need. If you wish to read more about this excellent charity and the work they do or wish to make a donation of your own, please visit http://www.worldvision.org/.
WWF (formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund) is driven by one simple concern:
"...it is our fear that if we humans keep on going the way we have been going, then the things that take our breath away, the things that make our jaws drop, the things that we are astounded by... will not be there for much longer... they will have gone, disappeared, sayanara."
With almost 5 million supporters distributed throughout 5 continents, WWF has offices in over 90 countries and can safely claim to have played a major role in the evolution of the international conservation movement.
Since 1985, WWF has invested over US$1 billion in more than 12,000 projects with all these projects playing a part in the campaign to stop the accelerating degradation of Earth's natural environment, and to help its human inhabitants live in greater harmony with nature.
In fiscal year 2007, 84 percent of their total revenue went to conservation programs to fight climate change, protect forests, protect our marine and freshwater eco-systems and promote sustainability.
